Named after Dr. Chung Wing Kwong, the founding headmaster of the former Lingnan University (Guangzhou), to commemorate his distinguished contribution to education, Lingnan Dr. Chung Wing Kwong Memorial Secondary School was founded in 1978 by Lingnan Education Organization which decided to meet the need of the Lai King community with the establishment of a secondary school that nurtures both the mind and soul of the younger generation. Our school aspires to be the lighthouse of hope and knowledge for teenagers.

As an aided full-time co-educational secondary school set up at a time when the idea of universal free education was still in its infancy, the beginning stage of our school was full of challenges. In the early years while the construction of the school campus was still under way, we had to operate temporarily in nearby schools. Despite the difficulties, the first year witnessed the start of twelve Form One classes. A year later, the school moved to its present campus with the start of Form Two. In 1983, the school sent its first cohort of Form Five students to sit the former Hong Kong Certificate of Education Examination. Setting up the first Hong Kong Advanced Level Examination class the same year, the school reached its first milestone of operating a continuous and complete secondary curriculum with graduates that qualified for local and overseas universities.

With a large campus situated in a green and spacious environment now, our school has multifaceted facilities that include 26 classrooms, an assembly hall, a newly refurbished library, four science laboratories, a huge number of multi-purpose and special rooms such as the Design and Technology Room, Home Economics Room, Campus TV Studio, Creativity and Technology Room, Gymnasium, Multimedia Learning Center, Music Room, Arts Room and the School Gallery. Under construction is the School Chapel that will provide a modern and tranquil place for religious and other activities.

Throughout the years the school has reaped a long list of achievements. In 2004, to display and share with the community the fruit of our technological education, we organized the first Inter-school Science Fair, an event that was highly acclaimed by teachers, students, parents and guests who applauded our effort to cultivate teenagers’ skills in creating designs that protect the environment and facilitate smarter living. The record-breaking success came in 2006 when our students utilized advanced engineering, mechanic and electrical technologies to operate 255 robotic designs for a one-minute harmonized movement simultaneously, setting a Guinness World Record.

Building on past successes and looking to the future, our school is now restructuring its curriculum and embracing ideals of positive education to form a happier, fairer, more inviting and more encouraging school culture. Witnessing, carrying and realizing the spirit of Christian educational service of Lingnan Education Organization, we are committed to nurturing teenagers into responsible and caring adults, equipping them with the knowledge that enables them to strive for excellence and make an impact in their future endeavors and, above all, inspiring them to glorify God, love the world and others and serve the needy and society with what they have learned in our school.
