Primary School

d02

“Lingnan University Alumni Association (Hong Kong)”, or LUAA in brief, was established in 1950s by a group of alumni, who live in Hong Kong, from Lingnan University in Guangzhou. In 1953, the Shek Kip Mei Fire made thousands of people homeless. In order to accommodate such a huge number of people within the shortest time, the Government built resettlement estates with the simplest structure in 1954. At that time, many children could only study in rooftop primary schools without appropriate facilities.

Inspired by the Lingnan University motto “Education for Service”, LUAA formed an organizing committee of “Lingnan Alumni Association Primary School” (LUAPS) in 1960. Undergone processes of application for Government land, fundraising and establishment, the school eventually started service in spring 1964 at 33 Pak Tin Street in Shek Kip Mei. Throughout the decades, the School has provided formal and quality primary education to students in the district.

To succeed and flourish the liberal arts education of Lingnan University, LUAA proposed to transform the primary school into direct subsidy scheme school (DSS) in 2005. Under the guidance and great support from senior Lingnanians and fellow alumni, LUAAPS was approved by the Education Bureau to turn into direct subsidy school in 2006. Subsequently, the school was renamed as “Lingnan University Alumni Association (Hong Kong) Primary School” (LUAAPS).

To embody the liberal arts culture as our mission, LUAAPS provides quality primary education to age 6-12 students. LUAAPS adopts small class teaching, biliterate and trilingual medium of instruction. Students enjoy close teacher-student relationship. LUAAPS also aims to nurture students with correct religious beliefs, patriotic sentiments, passionate to life, love to learn and serve, be responsible and to become the Lingnanians with noble taste and temperament.

LUAAPS is composed of Lingnan Campus and Kow Kong Campus respectively. Kow Kong Campus is originally Kow Kong Commercial Association School (KK School). Grateful for the generosity of Kow Kong Commercial Association which recognized our school mission in teaching and serving the community, they allow LUAAPS to use their campus after KK School ceased to operate. LUAAPS now has 20 classrooms, 2 playgrounds, 1 hall, 1 indoor activity room, library, visual arts cum computer room, music room, dancing room, home economics cum multi-purpose room, English learning room, kitchen and tuck shop etc.
